People have had fevered fantasies about models forever. One or two might have found their way in, but that would be a long odds bet. I'm not sure how you "know for a fact", but I do know that based on my personal experience with the company that would be unlikely. Perhaps the playmates back in the '70s didn't moonlight as courtesans, but if they did, it would have been much easier for them to do so under the radar and employees of Playboy were less likely to catch wind of such things. There were also playmates who were sugar babies but that is a distinction without a difference. They did so under the radar and some even used different monikers while they were courtesans. I know for a fact that many from the '90s and '00s were escorts. I'm not going to posit that all playmates were escorts, however, to say that none were escorts is simply naive. The magazine was extremely image conscious under Hef's reign. And the fact is that no one at the magazine knew that at the time nor would she have been a Playmate if it had been known. And, as we all know, one of the girls -Sue Kiger- had actually done a small part in a porn film before she was selected as a Playmate. Obviously many of the girls were models in the early days and later many were aspiring actresses looking for a career boost. There were a relative handful who wound up involved with Hefner and The Mansion there were far more who were hired for photo shoots at the Mansion for features in the magazine. They just had very remunerative waitressing jobs. They really pretty much were the girl next door. For a period of time, a a fair number of the girls came form the clubs, and the Bunnies were almost all local girls from the area around the clubs. But the notion that they were sex workers is just someone's foolish fantasy. The one thing that was pretty much a given is that all of the girls were portrayed as single and never married until, I believe, Kathy Shower, in spite of the fact that a few were married and had kids. The playmates certainly were not likely to be virgins but they were hardly hookers and porn stars. That is simply not true and in fact not even close to true. Having worked for Playboy in the late 1970's I was a little surprised to see the comment that they were all hookers and escorts.

You might ask why don't they step forward and talk? Who would believe a girl who took her clothes off to camera to a huge movie star. Remember Colin Farrell sex tape with playmate Nicole Narain.

Īll the public interest was if the playmate slept with Hefner for the centerfold or PMOY?īut don't you forget about the parties, these were crammed with celebrities, most of them slept with playmates, some people talk about Leonardo DiCaprio and others taking cars full of playmates and other models for sex. Julie Ashton, N'J De Bahia, Kristine DeBell, Asia Carrera (Jessica Bennett), Racquel Darrian (Kelly Jackson), Elisa Florez (Missy Manners), Lene Hefner, Kelly Jaye (Kelly Jackson), Gina LaMarca, Samantha Laurent, Nicki Lewis, Lorissa McComas, Bridget Monet (Dana Cannon), Brooke Moore. The problem is the way they present these girls, flawless, innocent and waiting for marriage to have sex.

I'd say the last 20 years of PB, before it was sold 9and revamped & re revamped) were a bunch of suits just milking the name dry.Įven in its heydays, playmates were no saints, most of them were escorts and strippers who continued that career after the magazine, some are still doing it till now. so the so called PB image became less meaningful, which add to its decline, as well as the rise of the internet. But getting to PB in the 2000's Hef had turned control over to other people in the 1990s. And in those sets, I guess for that time 1963/64 were beyond the set standard (here in USA at least) Pubic hair, open legs. I believe a year before or same time as her PB photoshoot. But Lori Winston Miss June 1964, posed for Edmund Leja under the name Julie Cron. most of it not much different from what PB was doing at the time. Playboy even in the early days had girls that had posed for other outlets, nudist magazines ect.

I mean, Playboy still must care about their Playmate brand? At least a tiny bit? Does anyone know the reasoning behind Playboy picking the train wreck that is Spencer Scott as a playmate? If I recall correctly, she first lies to Playboy about her age (that is, she was underage, not anything like actually being 24 while claiming she was 18), they still pick her when she has turned 18, and then she ends up doing adult content in no time.
